I’m Good

Be warned against the, “I’m a good person” rhetoric. This phrase is usually heard by people who, I believe want to live life by their own standards so they’ll cherry pick a little from Christianity, a little bit from Islam, some from Buddhism, and a sprinkle of new age in the mix and have therefore formed what I like to call a gumbo religion. In my opinion, it’s because they find it hard to reconcile the deeply rooted beliefs of other cultures and the false belief that Christianity is only but so old so how can it be the “true religion.” Firstly, Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship. Christ, because he is God in the flesh dispels that notion of inferiority because God is The Creator. The Beginning and the End. Secondly, let me say that ANY religion that requires you to follow a set of steps or rituals to secure your salvation is not a religion you should involve yourself in because it requires that you operate in the flesh. Why would a “higher power,” which by defintion means beyond the realm of this earthly dimension call you to such a tall order in order to secure your place in the afterlife, knowing that your flesh is weak and will fail you on multiple occasions throughout your journey towards redemption. It’s fruitless effort and deceitful. God called us from out under the law for this very reason and any religion that calls for you to work your way into ever-lasting life is a lie. You’re placing yourself back into bondage when God has called us to liberty.

So let’s continue with the “I’m a good person, so that should be enough for God to let me into heaven.” For one, you're not good all the time and God is good all the time. He is holy. You are relying on a work-based or performance-based mentality to give you access to a perfect and holy God. It would go against His very nature to allow you to enter into his heavenly home because you would contaminate it, pollute the air. So again, why would a Holy God allow such a thing to happen. The answer is He wouldn’t. This is why God has called us to repentance when we fail to live up to his commandments AND to believe on his Son, Christ Jesus. When we do, we have then invited the Holy Spirit into our lives and live by the standard that now lives within us and become an heir of God and joint heirs with Jesus. What a beautiful life!
