WILLFUL THINKING

Don’t get it twisted

I find the world we live in today so interesting because we are truly living out the last days. With the rise of new age spirituality and other avenues of spirituality on the rise, enormous discussions surrounding religion and Christianity have emerged with regards to what is true and to what is right.

In the book of Deuteronomy 4:19, it says, “And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship and serve them.” It goes on to say that God has given these things to us a heritage. If we really break that down, what Moses is tellling the children of Israel and ourselves is that the sun, the moon, and the stars are a gift from God. The great thing about having heritage is that it reveals who you are and reminds you of where you came from. If Moses had to warn the children of Israel to remain watchful so they wouldn’t fall into idolatry by way of the sun, moon, and stars, then there IS something wonderful and awe-inspiring about them. Because we have no image and no form of God, we can fall into the trap of carving an image of God based upon the things that give us the FEELING of God. (Deuteronomy 4: 15-18). So,what we’re doing today is confusing heritage with holiness. That feeling of wonder and reverence you receive when you look up into the sky is real but not because of the sun, moon, and the stars themselves but because of Who created it.

So how do I know to seek counsel from God and not the stars if I’ve never been introduced to who God is? His Word says, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead so that they are without excuse because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (Romans 1:20-21)
