I often wondered why during Jesus’s ministry preaching throughout the region of Galilee He would frequently tell those He had healed to go their way and not say anything about Him healing them. Why would Jesus want to conceal his power and authority over diseases?

The more I read and studied, I strongly believe it’s because Jesus wants people to follow Him because they understand the true cost of doing so. He performs miracles because of His compassion for people. We see this in the story of the widow who lost her only son. But if we pay close attention, Jesus is most impressed with those who KNOW who He is. The woman with the issue of blood, the gentile woman with a demon-possessed daughter, and the centurion whose servant was dying. These are a few examples of individuals who were not of God’s chosen people but somehow knew exactly how to receive the promises and blessings of God.

Jesus never wanted people to be consumed with the healings and performance of miracles because it would take away from the real reason of why He was sent. And that is because as exciting and compelling these miraculous acts are, they are not the Good News. That good news is that we have been given salvation through our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ if we just repent and believe. This was His mission. God is so much more concerned with our spiritual health than our physical health that Jesus uses the eye, hand, and foot as objects of offenses that should casted away if they lead us into destruction because He would rather you enter into the kingdom of heaven maimed, lamed, or without an eye than our whole body casted into hell.

So next time we question God’s supposed “inaction” to our physical ailments and disease maybe it is our spirit that is in greater need of saving than our physical.
