What happens to children when they die?
Are babies born with the Holy Spirit? Let’s explore! Romans 5:12, Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.
The Bible as the infallible word of God states that all are born into sin. And sin unto death. But if we keep reading, Romans 5: 15 explains, For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ abounded to many.
I believe that babies and children are brought into the kingdom of God by His grace.
Though we are saved by faith, our confession that Jesus is Lord, it is because of God’s grace that we were able to come into the faith to begin with. In criminal justice, there is a term called “modus operandi” which translates to mode of operation. This is grace. There is another term, “modus vivendi, which is essentially a bilateral agreement between two parties for a peaceful coexistence. This is faith. I have to believe that grace is the engine that sets everything into motion. Without it, all else fails. What happens when our faith fails, or we lose hope? Ephesians 2:8-9, For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone boast. Furthermore, James 4:6, says, Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
The Bible address children in a very specific way. Jesus in Matthew 18:3 asserts, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” What better description of humility is there besides that of a small child? As believers, we should be perceived as knowing little when it comes to things of God because it is only by His Spirit that we understand spiritual things and accept as true that Jesus is Lord.
My final thoughts: If Jesus asserts that to enter into the kingdom of heaven, we must become like little children, how much more children whose lives never materialized or were cut short are in the kingdom of heaven.
